KUMA - Cadet is a compact Japanese restaurant nestled in the lively 9th arrondissement, known for its focused menu celebrating Japanese curry and comforting rice bowls. With seating limited and no reservations accepted, it tends to fill up quickly, making it a spot best suited for those who don’t mind a short wait or visiting during off-peak hours.

The atmosphere is modest and straightforward, reflecting the no-fuss approach of the cuisine. Inside, the vibe feels casual yet intentional, welcoming diners who appreciate genuine flavors over flashy presentation. The friendly staff help maintain a warm, approachable environment despite the restaurant’s small size.

The menu spotlights several variations on Japanese curry, a central draw for visitors. Signature dishes like the Katsu Curry (often ordered with an extra egg) and Karaage Curry stand out for their rich, balanced flavor and satisfying portions—enough to fill up without overwhelming. Vegetarians also find options like the Don Veggie and Curry Vege, making it inclusive without diluting the authentic taste. Pairing one of these dishes with a cold Sapporo beer adds a relaxed, simple pleasure to the meal.

For those lingering after the main course, traditional Japanese sweets such as Daifuku and Mochi (available in green tea and vanilla matcha varieties) provide a gentle finish to the experience. This range hints at a kitchen attentive to both savory and sweet aspects of Japanese home-style dining.

KUMA - Cadet works well for locals and visitors who value honest, home-cooked flavors in a no-frills setting. It’s an accessible spot for lunch or dinner, especially on weekdays or early evenings when the crowd is lighter. The welcoming, efficient service and well-executed dishes make it a reliable spot for anyone wanting a taste of Japan that feels both comforting and authentic, right in the middle of Paris’s bustling neighborhood.

The food here is absolutely delicious! So tasty and filling. It is hard to find space to sit as it is a small restaurant which is constantly full (and they don’t take reservations) so be wary of that when deciding to visit.

This place is a hidden gem! The Japanese curry here is simply out of this world, rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of spice. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients, and everything is cooked with care and authenticity. The portions are generous, the presentation is beautiful, and the service is warm and attentive. I tried the katsu curry and it was probably the best I've ever had !! Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and smothered in a delicious, comforting curry sauce. If you're a fan of Japanese food or just looking to try something new and satisfying, this restaurant is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be coming back. Highly, highly recommended !!

Their Katsu Curry is the best food I ate in my entire life. I felt like the guy from Ratatouille when he takes the first bite of the ratatouille.

I had a fantastic experience and highly recommend this gem of a spot! The karaage curry was a standout, with its perfectly cooked chicken and a curry sauce boasting incredibly well-balanced flavors, while the daifuku offered a delightful harmony of sweet and subtle tastes in every bite. Absolutely delicious! The eclectic, cozy vibe with its industrial charm, red neon lights, vintage posters, and a lively crowd paired perfectly with the experience, and the top-notch service added to the warm, community feel, enhanced by the peaceful, pedestrian-only street. I’ll be back for sure on my next trip to Paris!

Kuma is a super cozy and welcoming spot!I’ve been there more than 10 times because the food is just that good! Their karaage curry is my absolute favorite. The portions, especially the meat, are generous, and the prices are very reasonable for what you get. Cute gesture from the restaurant tampons and pads for free in their bathroom! Pro tip: To avoid the queue, try to arrive early: around 12:00 PM for lunch or 6:30 PM for dinner. Otherwise, you might end up waiting at least 30 minutes to get a seat.

This spot is a total win! The Japanese curry slaps – rich, flavorful, and just the right level of comfort food vibes. No endless waiting either, the line moves fast and the food comes out super quick. Perfect for when you’re starving but still wanna treat yourself.
